Class 1 Miss Glendining and Miss Reeks
Class 1 2022-23
Welcome back Class 1!
I hope that you have all had a restful Summer and are looking forward to a brand new academic year at school.
In English, we will be reading the text Grandma Bird by Benji Davies and other stories linked to this text. The children will be learning how to write postcards, writing in past tense to recount from the perspective of a character. Following on from this, the children will write a character description of Noi and finally they will write a retelling of main events.
In maths, we will be exploring place value of numbers to 20 in Year 1 and numbers to 100 for Year 2. Alongside this, the children will learn how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, recall odd and even numbers and one more/less. The children will use practical equipment and models, such as place values rods, Numicon, bead strings and counters to problem-solving and explain their mathematical thinking. In addition to this, children will have Mastering Number sessions to develop a secure understanding of number.
In History, we will be exploring the historical events of the Gunpowder Plot and Armistice Day. In Geography, the children will be exploring Peover and the environment around them. In RE, the children will be exploring the religion of Christianity and begin to show curiosity and ask questions about Christian beliefs and stories. In PE, our topic is multi-skills and gymnastics, please come dressed in PE kit on PE days.
In PSHE, the children will be building on understanding their emotions, self-awareness, and strategies to regulate their feelings. We will be having weekly lessons on My Happy Mind, which promotes positive mental well-being as well as practising 'happy breathing'.
The children will be doing PE on Tuesday and Thursday. On these days, the children can come to school in their PE kits.
The children can bring their own water bottles into school which they can access throughout the day and they will change their water regularly. Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on their water bottle.
Please ensure your child has suitable footwear in school (old trainers/wellies etc.) as we go outside and get muddy a lot!
Any questions, please come and ask me.
