The last half term of the year begins!

I cannot believe it is Summer 2 already!

Hello everyone!

I hope you've had a wonderful half-term holiday and enjoyed all the Platinum Jubilee celebrations!  Haven't they been wonderful?

We are about to embark on our final half-term of the school year and I honestly can't believe how quickly it has come around!  It is going to be a VERY busy half-term with all of these brilliant events to look forward to:

  • Sports Day
  • Leavers' celebrations
  • Our end of year production - We're All Going On A...SUMMER HOLIDAY!
  • Transition days

Learning wise, we've got lots of great content coming up too!

In English, our text is 'Window' by Jeannie Baker.  It is a BRILLIANT wordless picture book.  It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and in this case, that really is true.  We will be writing autobiographies and biographies to begin with and then using our text as a stimulus to write persuasive leaflets about building on greenbelt land.  A very thought-provoking topic indeed!

In Maths, Year 5 will be starting the half-term by finding fractions of amounts before moving onto understanding, comparing and ordering decimals with up to 3 decimal places.  Year 6 will be finding percentages of amounts and then solving one-step and two-step equations.  We will all be focusing on our recall of the 12 times table for the first two weeks.

In Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats, particularly focusing on life cycles.  In History, we will be continuing to learn about the Mayan Civilisation, including: their number system, their letters and what they ate.  In Geography, we will be learning about Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg and completing a traffic survey outside school.  Watch out motorists!  In Computing, we will be creating quizzes - some of them will even be created for the younger children in our school!  In P.E, we will be developing our tag rugby skills with Mr Bentham and our athletic skills with Mrs Blackham.

Let's have a fantastic final half-term!  I will update our blog again soon!
