October 2019

Find out about all the wonderful things we have been up to in our first half term!

In Class 1 we have been working really hard at settling into the routines of a new classroom. We have been exploring our phonics and developing a passion and enthusiasm for our reading - well done!

In writing we are making progress with our small steps and the children have really enjoyed our writing based on the the Benji Davies text: 'Grandma Bird'.

In Maths we have been consolidating our place value. The year one children have mastered  number bonds and year two have moved onto using a number line to add and subtract within 20. I have been particularly impressed with their reasoning this half term and how they have tackled new learning. Well done!

We have particularly enjoyed learning about Guy Fawkes in history. Unpicking the plot, questioning the plotters and understanding the meaning behind Bonfire Night. The children have really excelled in this subject which has made me very excited about the year to come.

In Geography the children are mastering map skills. They have been able to identify areas on a map, use a map to navigate and are secure on North, South, East and West.

We have been observing the seasonal changes in Science and exploring the wonderful, ever-changing setting of our school. The children have asked insightful questions and challenged themselves to think of reasons why such changes have occurred.

I am looking forward to next half term where we will be exploring the Art world, developing our own poetry and continuing to observe changes in our environment.
