January 2022 Blog

What a great start to 2022 we have had in Reception! Read on to find out more....

This month we have been understanding more about the world around us and learning about animals and their habitats. The children have enjoyed listening to some great stories about animals such as 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and 'Brave Bear'.

There have been some exciting opportunities for writing and the children have written party invitations (for our Teddy Bear's picnic), shopping lists, wanted posters and designed party games.

In Phonics, we have been continuing with Phase 3 and learning new GPCs that the children can apply when reading and spelling new words. The children have enjoyed phonic activities in our indoor and outdoor provision, such as phonic hopscotch and 'splat the sound' games.

In Maths, the children have learnt about numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and all the number bonds within them. We have been blown away with how mathematical the children are becoming in Reception, answering questions, explaining their reasoning and using different models and images e.g. bar model, tens frame.

Finally, the children have really enjoyed playing in the role play area, which they decided they would like to be the Peover Vet Surgery. They have been caring for poorly animals and carrying out some very impressive operations. Well done Reception! :)
