What are Class 3 learning about?

Happy first week back after the half term holiday!

This week in English we have started to write war poetry based on 'Where the Poppies Now Grow' and 'Peace Lily'.  Once our poetry unit has finished, we will move onto writing balanced arguments which contain persuasive devices and formal language.

In Maths, we have been solving problems involving addition and subtraction before we move onto multiplication and division methods.

Our topic of 'Memories' continues this half term, however we are now focusing on World War One rather than the decades that came after it.  We will be discovering how the war began, what life was like for the soldiers, how life at home was affected and how the war finally came to an end.  We will of course commemorate the centenary on Sunday 11th November to thank all of the people who have risked or even lost their own lives serving our country.  Children have enjoyed singing songs which are associated with World War One and World War Two, as well as creating a memorial for the soldiers which will be part of the Remembrance Day service on Sunday.

I’ll write again soon,

Miss Woodward
