A new beginning...

Welcome back to our new school year!

Hi Class 2!

I am really excited to be getting started on a new school year and even more so that I get the chance to be your teacher this year!  After five and a half years in Year 5 and 6, it will be really interesting to teach two different year groups and get my teeth stuck into your curriculum.

The Iron Man by Ted Hughes | Books & Shop | Faber

In English, we are going to be focusing on the text: The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.  It is a brilliant book that I remember reading when I was a child!  We will be starting our unit by writing character descriptions.  In these, we will be trying to include a variety of adjectives and adverbs, expanded noun phrases and well-chosen similes.

In Maths, we will be starting on place value.  Year 3 will be focusing on numbers up to a thousand and Year 4 will be developing their understanding of numbers with 4 digits.  We will develop a secure understanding by reading, writing, partitioning, representing, comparing and ordering these numbers.  Year 4 will also be learning how to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.  Both year groups will be improving their recall of multiplication facts, starting with the two-times table.

Ancient Greece - Wikipedia

As historians, we will be learning about Ancient Greece.  We will learn about some key events and important people from this time, as well as what their daily life was like.  In Geography, we will be learning about settlements and particularly focusing on our settlement of Over Peover.  As artists, we will be learning about Leonardo Da Vinci and painting portraits of our friends.  In Science, our first unit is Forces and Magnets.  In Computing, we will be creating PowerPoints which contain pictures, audio, videos and animations.  In R.E, we will be learning about the Bible and in PSHE, we will be working on self-awareness.  Our French lessons will be about ourselves and where we live.

What Made Leonardo da Vinci a Genius?

As you can tell, it is going to be a very busy half-term and we have lots of exciting learning ahead of us.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all so much better and being part of our Class 2 family.

See you very soon!
