What will we be learning about this half-term?
Welcome back after your half-term holiday!
This half-term we have lots of exciting learning ahead of us! In English, we will be focusing on a wordless picture book called 'Island' by Mark Janssen. Our first writing cycle will be setting descriptions and the book will lend itself to this brilliantly! Wait until you see the gorgeous illustrations!
In Maths, we are going to be finishing our Four Operations unit. Year 5 will be starting with written subtraction with more than one exchange whilst Year 6 will be focusing on long multiplication.
In the Wider Curriculum, we will be mapping the world in Geography and learning the capitals of different countries. In R.E, we will be learning about Christian beliefs and practices, as well as discussing the true meaning of Christmas. In Science, we will be describing the properties of materials and learning the following vocabulary: conductors, insulators, magnetic, opaque, transparent and translucent. In Design and Technology, we will be designing and making an Anglo-Saxon village using a variety of materials and equipment. And of course, with Christmas drawing ever closer we will be doing lots of singing for the best time of year!
