Woo hoo - a new school year is about to begin!

What is in store for Class 3 this term?

Hi Class 3,

I hope you have had the best summer spending time with your family and friends.  I have had a great summer!  It began with a holiday in Whitby and North Yorkshire - we enjoyed lots of walks, meals out and sight-seeing.  I also went to London to stay with one of my best friends and I've spent lots of time with my family.  My eldest nephew came for a sleepover last weekend which was lots of fun!

I cannot wait to start our new school year.  The classroom is starting to look like it did before COVID-19 - our tables are back in groups and the Reading Corner looks much more inviting!  I'm also excited about the learning we have in store this year - we have some great texts for English and in History, Geography and Science we have so many interesting things to learn about!

This half term, we will be reading Wonder by R. J. Palacio.  This is my FAVOURITE children's book and I can't wait to share it with you!  Our first text type will be diary entries and we will be writing them from different characters' perspectives.

In Maths, we will start off with developing our knowledge of place value.  This will include reading, writing, partitioning, comparing, ordering and rounding numbers.  We will also learn about Roman Numerals and negative numbers.

In Science, we will be learning about changes in humans from babies to old age.  In History, we will be finding out about the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots, including key people from the time, their legacy and what their villages typically looked like.  In Geography, we will be mapping the world and learning the capital cities of different countries.  In R.E, we will be learning about Christian beliefs and practices.  In P.E, we will begin with a unit on multi-skills to develop our throwing and catching technique.  We will continue to have Mr Proctor for Music - I bet you can't wait to have your wonderful Music lessons with him again!

This term, we will also be going swimming on Mondays - yay!  Information about this has been emailed to your parents.

I hope you are looking forward to our new school year beginning.  I can't wait to see you all and hear about your summer holiday!

See you soon,

Miss Woodward x
