Happy New Year!

What does the beginning of 2021 have in store for Class 3?

Hi everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all!

I am really excited about the term ahead and I can't wait to hear what you have all been up to over Christmas!  I had a lovely Christmas with Michael and I managed to see my parents and my sister, brother-in-law and nephew for some lovely walks in the countryside.  Father Christmas brought me so many amazing gifts and you all spoilt me rotten too!

This term, we will be starting off with Fractions in Maths.  This is a unit a lot of children dread but it's actually one of my favourite units to teach and hopefully I can make it fun for you all!  You will be learning to find equivalent fractions, compare and order fractions, add and subtract fractions and lots more!  It sounds complicated now but by Easter you will have mastered it!

In English, we are going to be using The Cherry Coloured Coat which has a series of videos we will be working through and using as writing stimuli.  Our first text type is setting descriptions - I know you will be excellent at these because you wrote wonderful character descriptions last half term!

In the Wider Curriculum, we will be focusing on the English Civil War in History which I know many of you are going to find fascinating!  As Geographers, you will be learning about South America which will include work on coffee and the Amazon Rainforest.  As Scientists, you are going to be developing your knowledge of materials: comparing and grouping them; recognising their properties;  demonstrating dissolving, mixing and changes in state and identifying which changes are reversible and irreversible. In R.E, you will be learning about Christianity, particularly focusing on Easter (which will be here before we know it)!

It is going to be a really interesting term!

I will write again soon.
